petikan khutbah jumaat rcsi 17 disember 2010 (english)

assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

all praise is due to Allah. we praise Him, and we seek help from Him. we ask forgiveness from Him, and we repent to Him. and we seek refuge in Him from our own evils and bad deeds. anyone who is guided by Allah, he is indeed guided. and anyone who has been left astray, there will be no one that can guide him. i bear witness that there is no other god that is worthy to be worshipped but Allah, and muhammad p.b.u.h is the servant and the messenger of Allah.

my brothers in islam,

islam came when the the light of humanity has fallen. when slaves are treated like goods and merchandise. when women were nothing but only for pleasure. when babies and children were buried alive. alcoholism was a lifestyle. idols were worshipped even when the idols cannot protect themselves. then islam came. islam came to cleanse the earth from the darkness. islam came to bring a new meaning of freedom; (that is) to be free from being the slaves of anything other than Allah. to fear nothing but Allah.

my brothers in islam,

long before muhammad was born, the class system, or 'caste', was practiced around the world. the concept is simple; the strong will oppress the weak. the slaves did not have the rights as human, they were simply treated like belongings. but islam came to remind all who live, that humans came from soil. there is no man or woman that is born from gold or diamond. all come from the soil, brown and unattractive. islam came to free the people from the darkness of inhumanity. islam came to teach all people that none is superior to others except by taqwa.

my brothers in islam,

know that on the day of arafah, in the 'hajjatul wida', the messenger of Allah has given this beautiful speech;" all mankind is from adam and eve, an arab has no superiority over a non-arab nor a non-arab has any superiority over an arab; a white has no superiority over a black, nor a black has any superiority over a white, except by taqwa. and Allah has said to us in surah al-hujurat, verse 13: "o mankind! we created you from a single (pair) of a male and female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know each other. verily  the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is the one with the most taqwa. and Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).

my brothers in islam,

do you know what is taqwa? it is defined as the state of 'being conscious of Allah'. but the best interpretation of taqwa can be obtained from the conversation of umar al-khattab and ubay bin kaab radhiallahu anhuma: one day, umar asked ubay bin kaab about taqwa. ubay said, "have you ever walked on a path that has thorns on it?" umar said,"yes." then ubay said, "what did you do then?" umar answered, "i rolled up my sleeves and struggled." ubay said, "that is taqwa."

my brothers in islam,

know that the path we chose is full of thorns. these thorns will tear your clothes and hurt you if you are not careful. sometimes, these thorns are very hard to see but very sharp and poisonous. sometimes, these thorns look like beatiful flowers and smell nice, but indeed these are the deadliest of all. these are the thorns that want to tear your faith. taqwa is the only way you can avoid tearing your imaan.

but what is taqwa? what is 'rolling up my sleeves and struggled' means? my brothers, you cannot just pray and hope that the thorns will go away. and you cannot stop because if you stop, then you will not get to your destination. there is no other road that can guide you to the destination except this road. the only way to reach your destination is by following this road. then tawqa is how you want to walk in the path without hurting yourselves or tearing your clothes. that is taqwa.

my brothers in islam,

who are the al-muttaquun? what are the actions of the al-muttaquun? let us look upon the al-quran in surah al-baqarah, verse 2-5:"this is the book, without doubt, in it is the guidance to the al-muttaqeen. (they are) who believe in the unseen, are steadfast in prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them. and who believe in the revelation sent to you, and sent before you, and have the assurance of the hereafter. they are on the true guidance, and it is these who will prosper."

al-muttaquun are the people that are guided by the al-quran. al-muttaquun believes on the things that are 'ghaib'; things that cannot be feel by their five senses; Allah, syaitan, and good and bad rewards. al-muttaquun performs what their god has told them to do; performing solat and give zakaat. al-muttaquun believes in the al-quran, injeel and torah and the revelations given to the prophets. and they believes in the akhirat; the afterlife.

my brothers in islam,

you might want to ask me, why do we need to be the al-muttaquun? to answer this, let us look into ourselves. we are given with two eyes, two ears and one mouth. we are given with aqaal, which enable us to differentiate between the good and evil. we are different from all other creations; from the animals, the plants and the stone. ask yourselves, what is our purpose in life? my brothers, know that our life purposes are to be the servant of Allah and the khalifah on the earth.

the road of abd Allah and khalifah is the true road of a person. there is no other road that can bring us to the right destination. you might ask me, what is the right destination? my friends, know that this world is just temporary. you will die someday. all that are created will die. this is the sunnah that no one can be excluded. however, know that there is the akhirat (the afterlife). that is our true destination. then my brothers, we need taqwa so that we can walk in the path of abd Allah and khalifah without tearing our clothes or hurting ourselves so that we can reach the right destination, that is the paradise of Allah.
